Abstract “Pollen grains of nine grape Vitis cultivars were examined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SCM) and photomicrographs were taken. Pollen grains were described based on shape, size, aperture, and exine sculpturing. The polar (P) and equatorial (E) axes and the P/E relationships were measured. In general, pollen grains studied could be classified into two groups: (1) those showing pollen abnormalities and (2) those showing normal grape pollen shape and patterns. The cultivars Beaver and Catawba fitted into the first category and Concord Seedless into the second category. The cultivars differed in size, shape, and aperture characteristics. Some cultivars had heteropolar grains. The pollen grains can be used as an additional character for identifying grape cultivars.”
